Schmidt, G. D., & Diaz, D.
(2012). Martín de Porres: The rose in the desert. Boston: Clarion
Books/Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
This is a beautiful tale of faith that shows how an immense
feeling of hope was brought to the people of Perú by Martin de Porres. Martin
de Porres is a Saint that was once the illegitimate son of a Spaniard. He was
destined to be a cirujano and when his special touch was found to be powerful,
many sought his help. The way Martin de Porres helped the people of Perú is
incomparable and through his kindness he saved many. Just by reading this book
brings peace to the reader and intense feeling of faith.
I am Catholic and I found Martín de Porres: The Rose in the Desert to be a tale of hope and faith and goodness and just beautiful miracles. I'm a firm believer despite the fact that we live in a cruel world. I believe that everone, regardles of their religious beliefs, should never lose faith in the goodness of the world and that there's some sort of superior being who is protecting us...I believe and I have hope.
